Winged Victory Gallery

In 2013 Marrickville Council ran a competition to design a replacement sculpture for Gilbert Doble’s Winged Victory WWI Memorial (1919) which had deteriorated beyond repair. The original was moved to the National War Memorial in Canberra and the replacement was to be a re-imagining of Doble’s original design. Darien’s design in collaboration with Meridian Sculpture Foundry won the competition. The six metre high figure was modelled in clay, moulded and cast at Meridian Foundry, installed in Marrickville in front of the town hall and unveiled at the Anzac Day Ceremony in April 2015.
