On the Hume highway at Snake Gully, about 8km from Gundagai (NSW), sits a historic sculpture titled Dog on the Tuckerbox. This famous landmark commemorates the working dog from an 1857 poem and song. Over the years it has become a popular tourist attraction and stopping-off point for travellers between Sydney and Melbourne.
In 2016 Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council had the idea of commissioning a series of sculptures of puppies of the Tuckerbox Dog. These were to be placed around the town as a way of enticing people off the highway and into Gundagai. Darien was commissioned in 2020. Three puppies were cast at Meridian Sculpture in 2021 and installed strategically outside shops and the local pub later that year.
