In 2023, Darien was commissioned by the City of Yarra in Melbourne to create a sculpture to commemorate the lives of Aboriginal Musicians Uncle Archie Roach and Auntie Ruby Hunter. After extensive consultations with the Roach and Hunter families, the finished bronze was unveiled in November 2024 in Atherton Gardens, Fitzroy within sight of Fitzroy’s famous charcoal lane. The lifesize sculpture was cast in bronze at Meridian Sculpture in Fitzroy and includes both Archie and Ruby’s totems: The pelician, wedged-tailed eagle and red-bellied back snake, and Ruby’s iconic Guitar and Tambourine.
